A blissfull stay in the valley of waterfalls

Switzerland is by far one of our favourite destinations in Europe to visit, with it's beautiful glaciers, breathtaking scenery and some of the friendliest locals on the planet - it is one not to be missed. We're always on the hunt for must-stay hotels in Switzerland to add to our list and we've definitely found one in the form of Hotel Staubbach.

Hotel Staubbach, situated in Lauterbrunnen (also known as the valley of waterfalls) is a boutique, welcoming hotel with the best views of the famous Staubbach falls - it is in fact less than a 5 minute walk away, yes we timed it. The grand building of Hotel Staubbach was built in 1890 and is a family run establishment. This hotel is one of the only hotels in Lauterbrunnen to have free parking - which is very handy when you're an avid road-tripper like we are!

The hotel has many great amenities, some of our favourites include free WiFi, a vintage picnic room with a fully kitted kitchen, tea and coffee station and an entertainment room with a chess board, TV and plenty of books which you can swap out for your own and read at your leisure.

We checked in at 3pm and stayed in Room 17, which is has a vintage, homely decor throughout the room. This Double Room has two single beds, a private en suite and a balcony which offers a 180º view of the waterfall and surrounding valley. We also loved the complimentary swiss chocolate we had waiting for us in our room! Just remember, this is an 'unstarred' property which means there aren't any TV's in the bedroom, so you can sit outside on the balcony and admire the views, or head downstairs and check out the TV and games they have there. Prices start from £150 per night - but this property gets booked up very quickly so be sure to book well in advance if you can.

If you're looking for a restaurant in the evening, unfortunately the hotel does not have one. You can either use the fully equiped kitchen and make your own food (we made cheese fondue) or you can head to one of the local restaurants located nearby the hotel. These restaurants include: Hotel Silberhorn, Hotel Oberland, Restaurant Weidstubli, Horner Pub, Airtime Cafe, Base Cafe and a few more. You can speak to the reception and they will book you a table at one of these amazing restaurants.

Reception is open from 7:30am - 10pm, however if you're a night owl like we are and love to explore, then the hotel will provide you with a key for the front door so you can head out and come back whenever suits you - just be prepared to wake up early to get the best seat at breakfast!

Our room came with breakfast included, which is served from 7:30am - 10:30am. As we're sure you know already - we love to be the first ones to the buffet. The buffet was extremely well presented with various hot and cold food options, as well as local dishes for us to try for breakfast. There was also tea, coffee and juices available with the breakfast buffet. We would definitely recommend fitting breakfast at Hotel Staubbach into your schedule.

When staying at this hotel there are plenty of things to do, check out our list of Top 10 things to do in Lauterbrunnen for some inspiration.

Overall we truly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Staubbach; our favourite part definitely being the 180º balcony - we decided to buy cheese foundue from the supermarket along with some locally baked bread and ate it outside watching the Staubbach Falls. We would like to personally thank the team at Hotel Staubbach for making our stay so wonderful and Adam for being so helpful during the whole process - we cannot wait to return!
