Yes...we said it. We have found the BEST Afternoon Tea in Dubai! Located inside the lobby of Sofitel the Obelisk, Bijou Patisserie is an elegant French patisserie nestled in the heart of Dubai. Bijou, meaning Jewel in French, is a chic patisserie which serves an award winning afternoon tea, amongst other great dishes. The afternoon tea cost us AED 195 for both of us - we ordered the afternoon tea for 1 and shared this, as recommended by our friendly servers, and it was more than enough!
'LE GOÛTER VAULT' afternoon tea can only be unlocked with a special key - once opened unveiling the intricately created delights inside. The food which comes with the afternoon tea include french savouries such as Edamame Hummus and Mushroom Crackers, Lobster Cocktail with Avocado, Local organic Tomato and Beef Cecina and Whipped Goat Cheese and Fig Jam. Some of the sweet dishes included on the afternoon tea are Apricot Compote with Ganache Dark Chocolate, Praline Hazelnut Ganache and Paste, Lemon & Basil Choux bun and Lemon Yuzu Kunefe, Raspberry Rose Compote Crepe. The afternoon tea also comes with unlimited tea and homemade lemonade - or this can be upgraded to wine or champagne at an extra cost.
As you enter the Sofitel the Obelsik, you will see Bijou Patisserie located on your left hand side in the lobby area. The french music surrounds the elegantly decorated restaurant, the sophisticated decor compliments the room and the french waitresses add the perfect final touch to creating this elegant, french feeling restaurant.
The afternoon tea runs daily from 2pm-6pm, pre-booking only. We booked our table for 2pm and arrived slightly earlier - so we ordered some drinks before we started. We tried the coffee-date milkshake which was delicious, spanish latte which had a strong but nice taste and a saffron latte which was as exotic as it sounds.
When the afternoon tea arrived, you are asked if you'd like to open the vault yourself or for the waitress to do it. We would definitely recommend letting the waitress do it for 2 reasons; number 1 being the key is quite fiddly if you don't know what you're doing and number 2 because you can capture the opening of the vault much better - as you can see in our video.
About 20 minutes in to the afternoon tea, out came a plate with a freshly cooked crepe and strawberry compote. Which was a nice treat to go along with the afternoon tea - they like to serve this warm and fresh, which was a nice contrast to the other nibbles on the afternoon tea.
We spent around an hour in the Bijou restaurant, slowly making our way through the delicious treats inside the vault. We drank endless amounts of homemade lemonade and tea and really enjoyed ourselves here. If you're looking for something indulgent to do in Dubai - but not break the bank then this is the activity for you.
